Paul Weller has always been known for his live performances over his
25-year career and has recently finished a UK arena tour and is currently
touring Europe supporting the release of his new album 'Illumination'. Two
of his live performances appear on this DVD entitled 'Paul Weller "Two
Classic Performances" released on 9 December 2002.
Sony Music in conjunction with independiente release the DVD of these live
performances from two very different perspectives : firstly the full 2 hour
performance from Hyde Park, the audio of which was recorded on full 5.1
dolby surround-sound and the definitive unplugged performance from
Later..with Jools Holland.
'Paul Weller Live at Hyde Park' was recorded at his performance as part of
the Route of Kings event in London's Hyde Park in front of a 22,000 strong
audience this summer. With full band, this two-hour gig included special
guest slots from Jocelyn Brown, Carleen Anderson and Stereophonics' Kelly
Jones. This performance was the first time his fans could hear songs from
the new album 'Illumination' which would go straight in at No.1 a few
months later.
The second performance, 'Paul Weller Later with Jools Holland' was
recorded last Christmas in support of the ½ million selling acoustic 'Days
of Speed' album - the first time in 10 years Paul had performed anything
from his Jam and Style Council back catalogue, stripped down to just him
and a guitar. Paul Weller is the only artist in the 'Later' series to have
appeared as many as 11 times. This is the second time Paul has been
honoured with a full-length programme all his own. Over an hour, this
performance includes guest appearances from Noel Gallagher and Jools
Holland and includes two previously unseen songs not shown when the show
with aired last year.
In addition to these performances, there is also a rare chance to see Paul
Weller being interviewed in front of camera, backstage at the making of the
video for the single 'It's Written in the Stars', recorded at London's
Roundhouse. The interview runs through the making of the new album
'Illumination' as well as general insights into the songwriter whose career
celebrated it's 25th year this May and is in it's third incarnation, from
The Jam though The Style Council and to his current success as a solo
artist.
